Horses with Hearts serves a diverse group of clients including children and adults with many different disabilities such as brain trauma, cerebral palsy, Down’s Syndrome, multiple sclerosis and others. Horses with Hearts also provides financial assistance for eligible clients for its therapeutic riding through an internal scholarship fund.
Horses with Hearts currently offers only therapeutic riding, a recreational program, to its clients. Therapeutic riding consists of physical activities designed to provide physical and emotional benefits through the acquisition of horsemanship skills. In the future, we hope to expand our program to include hippotherapy (equine assisted therapy) – a treatment tool designed to facilitate a specific, desired response. Hippotherapy can include occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy.
Therapeutic riding clients further gain from the emotional bond that grows between the horse and the rider. These intangible benefits lead to more independence and self-esteem for the rider.
