Our Horses

PennyPenny is a 29 year old Quarter Horse owned by Jamie Griffith. Jamie has retired Penny from showing and has leased Penny to HwH. Penny was HwH’s first horse. Since our very conception, Penny has been there. It was Penny’s loving heart that helped us see the vision of Horses with Hearts. Penny’s easy-going gaits, kind heart, and super patient attitude make her the perfect “first ride” for many, many of our participants.

Penny has multiple show titles. She has been shown throughout the Eastern Panhandle of WV in western pleasure, hunter under saddle, and hunter over fences. She holds multiple Berkeley County Youth Fair Grand and Reserve Champion titles. She holds multiple WV State Fair Grand Champion Titles. In 2001, she won the WV State Fair Senior Pony Over Fences and the Overall High Point Champion.

Penny loves everyone that comes to the farm and has been the heart beat of our program.

TontoTonto is a Paint Horse. He is owned by Debbie Teach and is leased to the program March through November. Tonto has been a part of our team for the past 2 years and does an outstanding job. His quiet, sweet spirit draws everyone to him. Tonto suffered a physically disfiguring injury when he was younger, but it does not affect his attitude, abilities, and willingness to please.

EdEd is a Registered Paint and Pinto owned by Jamie Griffith and leased to the program. He has multiple show titles and has shown western pleasure, hunter under saddle and hunter over fences. He holds multiple Berkeley County Youth Fair Grand and Reserve Champion titles, as well as multiple WV State Fair Grand and Reserve Champion Titles. He has shown on the APHA Zone 7 circuit and the APHA World Show in 2010. He has his ROM in hunter under saddle. He retired from the show ring in 2010 and joined the therapy world full time in 2011. Ed is the barn show off – always finding new ways to show off his personality. He is a big horse with a big heart!

RomeoRomeo is a Percheron/Draft cross owned by Cathy Dodson and leased to the program. He is our gentle giant. For such a big guy, he has the quietest spirit. Cathy has been working him for the dressage ring but has enjoyed watching him give so much of himself to the therapy world.

DukeDuke is a Red Roan Quarter Horse. He was purchased for the program in 2012. He is 15 hands and has a stocky build. His size and forgiving attitude have made him an invaluable asset. Although he has only been with us for 1 year, he has already proven that he can handle the job.

TobyToby is a Haflinger cross owned by Tim and Jan Groves. He leased to the program March through November. He is our little guy and the youngest member on the team. He joined HwH in April 2012 and has worked hard learning his new job. Everyone loves “little” Toby. He is small, standing 13 hands, but his heart is big and so willing to take on new tasks.

CiscoCisco is a Quarter Horse owned and leased to the program by Craig Dixon. He has been a trail horse most of his life but gives 100% when he is in the ring to every person that gets on his back. His large frame builds confidence in everyone who rides him. Cisco joined the team in 2012 and has done an outstanding job.

In memory:

ScooterScooter came to HwH in June of 2006 from Fairmont WV. He was donated to us from the Daniel & Dawn Shroyer family. Scooter was 16-year-old Tiffany Shroyer’s show horse and comes with a long list of accomplishments. He holds numerous Quarter Horse World Titles and has tackled numerous disciplines from western pleasure to hunter under saddle. Scooter was great with all the kids – taking several from dependent riders to independent riders. We lost Scooter on July 5, 2011 due to a colic. We greatly miss him, however, he will remain in our hearts forever!
