In 2020, Horses with Hearts expanded with several new programs. One of them is “Equine Learning and Mental Health”. Although we group these into 1 program, the methods used in equine learning are not identical to those of using equines to address mental health.
Horses with Hearts now has 10 PATH certified Equine Specialists who are involved in our Equine Learning and Mental Health programs. Equine learning lessons include unique and engaging activities with horses that teach character development and reinforce life skills such as communication, confidence, emotional identification and regulation, teamwork, trust, respect, responsibility, integrity, and perseverance.
We have partnered with Boys and Girls Club of the Eastern Panhandle to provide Equine Learning opportunities to boys and girls within our community. In 2020, boys and girls came to the farm on Thursday afternoons for equine learning lessons. This summer, boys and girls came to the Horse Power Summer Program for 4 days of Equine Learning, Horse Powered Reading, and STEM activities in partnership with Jefferson County Schools and the Boys and Girls Club of the Eastern Panhandle.
